James Baldwin Stamps

I don't usually props Uncle Sam's machine, but I have to admit, the James Baldwin stamp is ace. Perhaps the clerk at the Clayton Street station instinctively knew to pull out a sheet (it wasn't posted anywhere in the glass case on the wall as one of their available stamps) after I bought about a thousand of the Malcom X stamps back when those were briefly available in 1999.

On the back of the sheet the Baldwin bio reads:

"James Baldwin (1924-1987) was a leading American writer of the 20th century and an influential figure in the civil rights movement. He exlplored race relations, love, and other subjects in works such as The Fire Next Time and Go Tell It On The Mountain."

Read an extended biography here.
