But for starters, what Mad Professor said is true: Dub Gone Crazy! It's indeed a special time when UK digi-dub explorers Zion Train, the original Jamaican madman Lee "Scratch" Perry and Boston experimental ragga-ist DJ C all have new releases.
Sprinkle in reissues like Greensleeves' look back at early jungle, Ragga Jungle Dubs, and the launch of VP's new vintage imprint 17 North Parade , and it spells a busy fall for music fanatics.
One of the more astounding new releases flying under many a radar -- the 1970s psychedelic Peruvian cumbia collection Roots of Chicha. If you can image funky South American grooves with psychedelic pop, surf, dub and outer space influences you're close to the Chicha sound. This could do for cumbias what Os Mutantes did for Brazilian rock.
Also of vintage attraction, Quannum side label Cali-Tex rescues Chicago rare 60s jazz-funk project Pieces of Peace (featuring Derf Recklaw and members of the Pharaohs) from obscurity for a proper re-release. It's dynamite soul that ignited the Civil Rights and Anti-War movement with tracks like "Cease Fire".
Watch out for new albums from LA's Orgone (think Antibalas partying with Breakestra), and if badman dancehall business is your flavor, you know its all about Mavado's Gangsta For Life. Here's the rest of what's coming soon:
