Massive Sounds International



Just heading out to the monthly Surya Dub party at Club Six in SF to hear one of the Bay Area's truly legendary sounds, Massive Sound International.

The sound consists of founders Spliff Skankin' and Robert Rankin', two established radio DJs who've also been spinning Bay Area clubs since 1984.

Their pedigree is somewhat astounding; they've opened or played at nearly every installment of both Reggae on the River in Humbolt County, Reggae Sunsplash US Tour and Monterrey Bay reggae festivals for nearly two decades.

Additionally, Spliff and Robert were two of the original selectors at Firehouse 7 in the Mission District, San Francisco's first legitimate reggae club night, which later took the name Club Dread.

Spliff & Robert are regulars at Dub Mission and Enter The Dancehall (also at Club Six)

For over 20 years DJ's Robert Rankin and Spliff Skankin have been spinnin Reggae music, in the bay area on the radio and in the clubs. From their regular radio shows Spliff and Robert formed the sound system Massive Sound International. Playing Roots, Dancehall and Dub they have established regular spots spinning tunes at many weekly Bay Area reggae club nights such as Enter The Dancehall, King of Kings and Dub Mission as well as most major festivals like Reggae On The River, Reggae Rising, Sierra Nevada World Music Festival and The Annual Bob Marley day Concerts. Robert hosts his weekly radio show Solid Foundation friday nights 6pm-9pm on KKUP 91.5FM in the south bay area and Spliff hosts his radio show Jah's Music in the south bay area on KFJC 89.7FM Sundays 3pm-7pm. Spliff also hosts the Reggae Express show in Berkeley Tues nights 10pm-Midnight on KPFA 94.1FM.
